Why more couples in Australia are turning to online couples counselling to reconnect, repair, and move forward—together
You’re lying in bed next to someone who feels miles away.
The tension is there. The conversations are shorter. Or louder. Or not happening at all. Maybe you’re exhausted from trying—or afraid to even begin. You’ve thought about getting help, but something always stops you.
“We’re too busy.”
“There’s no one near us.”
“We don’t have time for weekly appointments.”
“I don’t want to sit in a waiting room and talk about our private life with a stranger.”
And then you wonder:
“Would online couples therapy even work for us?”
The answer—backed by growing evidence, psychological expertise, and lived experience—is yes.
Yes, online couples counselling can work.
Yes, even for complex dynamics.
Yes, even if you’ve never done therapy before.
The real question isn’t whether it works. It’s whether you’re ready to show up—and let it work for you.
When Should You Get Online Couples Counselling?
It is a good choice if you are having a long distance relationship and you don’t get to see your partner very often.
It is a good choice if you have children and you find it hard to get time to see a counsellor. You can arrange an appointment during a time when you know the children will be at school or daycare.
If you have high pressure jobs and time is limited, it can help to see a psychologist online. Then there is no commuting time to their clinic.
If you want the psychologist to see what the situation is like at home. For example, if your partner never helps with the dishes, you can show the psychologist what the pile looks like. This can be easier and cheaper than arranging a home visit.
There can be lots of reasons why online counselling makes sense. And you can always contact us to discuss it.
